To the Bozeman City Commission,
I write to whole-heartedly support Christopher Coburn to be appointed as Bozeman City Commissioner.
From my perspective, Mr. Coburn’s work on the County Health Board has been knowledgeable and
thoughtful. He appears to be a generous and collaborative colleague who will understand the give and take
of Commission work and contribute to robust and productive discussions.
Christopher’s statement at last year’s Commissioner appointment meeting showed a deep understanding
of contemporary issues – growth and the strains on our society, workforce and housing, the challenges and
exciting opportunities that come with a diversifying citizenry, and the needs and interests of young people
who are crucial to Bozeman’s economic and cultural life. After all, equality and justice underpin everything
the City does.
Importantly, as both an African-American and gay man, Christopher brings life experiences that are lacking
in the historic and current commission, but that are so crucial in these times. Our institutions need the
perspective that he will bring to the table, as well as his professional skills and experience. I’m excited about
the Commission appointing a well-rounded young man who is cognizant of the common good and is
genuinely eager to serve our City.
Appointing Christopher Coburn to the Bozeman City Commission is an opportunity for needed balance in
our City leadership that should not be missed.
