Hello Mayor and Commissioners,
I'm writing to support the appointment of Christopher Coburn to serve on Bozeman's City Commission.
There are several reasons why Chris is the best candidate to take up the current vacancy. Firstly, he is a
public health expert, having served on the Gallatin City-County Board of Health. As we all continue to tackle
and work through the COVID pandemic, his background and knowledge would be invaluable as we try to
chart a safe and reasonable course.
Next, Chris’ work with community organizations and nonprofits points to his good character and devotion
to his fellow citizens, and also exposes him to the challenges they’re facing on a day-to-day basis. As such,
he has a clear perspective on the needs of Bozemanites and the issues facing our community.
Finally, Chris’ appointment would do wonders to help bring some missing representation to the
Commission. He is a young, working professional who rents his housing, and therefore knows firsthand the
challenges of getting established in a growing city where space, housing, and services are at a premium in
terms of both availability and pricing. He could speak to experiences of many currently under-represented
groups, to make sure that Commission decisions don’t accidentally ignore or marginalize certain people. It
would be a huge oversight to ignore this opportunity.
I hope you find these reasons convincing and appoint Chris as the new City Commissioner. He is an
exemplary candidate - uniquely qualified and uniquely positioned within our community. We shouldn’t turn
down the chance to have his voice help guide our wonderful city.
