I would like to offer support for the R-4 zoning for Buffalo Run based on the same principle that many have used to oppose the project -community character. To me, community character is about so much more than the type and size of homes in one neighborhood. Communitycharacter is about having different kinds of homes for neighbors to be able to age-in-place and downsize in the same neighborhood. Communitycharacter is about providing places to live for young adults who want to buy or rent in the same neighborhood where they grew up or options forfamilies experiencing change in structure or financial status. On a larger scale, community character can be enhanced when there are enough localcustomers in walking distance to support the creation of neighborhood shops and services. Community character is about having diverse,accessible, equitable options for different people at different stages in their lives. Change and growth are hard but mixing uses and housing types isactually a familiar concept and, with quality design, often results in desirable and unique places.
