To whom it may concern:
I am writing to you about a fine I received for the removal of snow from the sidewalk
at my home on 2502 Lily Drive on January 27th, 2021.
On January 26th, I received a notice to remove the snow and ice from my sidewalks
after returning home from work.
I removed the snow that evening, and purchased ice melt for the sidewalks as well.
The following afternoon, on January 27th, I planned to apply the ice melt to the sidewalks
knowing that it would be most effective during the daylight hours. The snow removal crew
was already at my home however, removing the ice from the sidewalks. I then received a
bill for $656.50 for the removal.
I am a teacher, and a single mom of two boys. During the week of 1/23/2021-
1/26/2021, I was working overtime as a staff member unexpectedly resigned, and I was
required to cover other classes in addition to my full time teaching.
I have lived at 2502 Lily Dr. since 2007, and have maintained my sidewalks during
that time. This fine causes financial hardship during an already very stressful time for my
family. I have submitted a payment in the amount of $156.50, which I ask the City of
Bozeman to consider as payment in full for the infraction. I have contested the fine through
the proper channels with the city, but my request to have the fine reduced has not been
met. I understand that it is my responsibility to clear the sidewalks and will continue to do
so, however I do ask that the fine be reduced.
Thank you for your consideration,
