In regard to the reconstruction of Kagy Blvd. west of S. 3rd, the plans as described in the Bozeman Daily
Chronicle, totally ignore the fact Kagy is the ONLY major east-west route south of Main St. I, along with
thousands of others, live east of Bozeman, south of I90, in the donut. The only direct way that I can get into
town and across town to the west side is along Kagy. Yesterday I drove that that way twice in the middle of
the afternoon. Traffic was volume was moderate west of S. 3rd and very light east of there. Pedestrian
crossings are the main cause of traffic congestion between 11th and 7th streets. The ways to solve the
problem are to construct pedestrian overpasses or underpasses near S. 11th and S. 7th, add left hand turn
lanes for all the parking lots and side streets, and fix the traffic light at 11th so that the left turn signal is
green rather than yellow. No accommodation has been made for all the new apartments constructed south
of Kagy there. Traffic circles will destroy the usefulness of Kagy as a major through route and complicate
pedestrian crossings (as evidenced by the circle at College and 11th). Although pedestrian underpasses are
expensive, they are the best long term solution.
