• Registration for our spring and summer programs started on March 1st and to date,
70% of our EXPLORE! Summer Day Camps are full. We offer 10 weeks of full day
camps, Monday-Friday for school aged children based out of the Story Mill
Community Center and Park. These camps are some of our most popular summer
programs along with our Outdoor Adventure Club for children ages 11-14 years.
These camps and clubs are just a small sampling of what is included in our
spring/summer 2021 lineup!
• The Rec2Go and Rec Mobile programs have seen an increase in participation this
month and we are working on some “special additions” to be added to each for
spring break week as well as earth day week. Traditionally, we offered a full week
of Spring Break “Staycation” Day Camps that we were not able to make happen this
year due to a shortage of Recreation Leaders. In an effort to stay engaged during
Spring Break (March 15-19) we are launching a “Spring Out of the Box” Rec2Go kit
which includes activities that can be done at home and included a live virtual
recreation program that will be offered Monday-Friday from 9am-10am. These
virtual programs will be led by our Recreation Leaders and will follow a different
theme each day. Themes include: National Park water coloring, Yoga, Indoor
Gardening, Connecting with Nature, and DIY Musical Instruments. Links to the
virtual programs are on our website and are available to anyone who is interested!
• Due to the warm temps and the melting snow, we have closed the Beacon Park that
was installed in Beall Park when snow depths allowed. The park offered a
convenient in town option for transceiver practice and was brought to the
community through a partnership with the Bozeman Parks and Recreation
Department and the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Service Avalanche
Center. This was the 10th year of the Beall Park Beacon Park and our partnership
with the Friends.
• We are currently recruiting both part time year round Recreation Leaders and full
time short term Recreation Leaders to plan and implement our community
recreation programs and help manage our 4 facilities during the spring and summer
season. Recruiting has been a challenge lately and is unfortunately starting to
impact what we can and cannot offer. Dedicated, creative, and professional
leaders are a crucial part of the success of our programs and to date we have 13 out
of 14 positions open in our division. These opening are having an impact on our
operations and we are hopeful that the applications will start rolling in!
• During Earth Day Week (April 19-23) we will be offering a walking field trip along
with our Forestry Division, to 3rd graders from Hawthorne and Whitter Schools.
Plans are in the works now and we are really looking forward to the partnership!
