Dear Kingston:
We have received, approved, and forwarded to the National Park for review, the
City of Bozeman's request for Certified Local Government status. We should
receive an approval of certification within ten days.
With the decision of Bozeman not to apply for pass-through funds to retain a
full-time historic preservation officer, we have reserved $2,200 for the Bozeman
CLG Commission to apply for to address local preservation issues. The project
should be for the identification, evaluation, nomination, and protection of
nistoric resources. This can be accomplished through survey, nomination of
properties to the National Register, public education programs, planning studies,
local historic preservation commission education and staffing, or the development
of comprehensive community-wide historic preservation plans. We will be glad
to entertain whatever project the Commission may wish to propose.
A Preliminary Application for CLG grant funding and a Preliminary Budget form
are enclosed. We must have our CLG pass-through funding committed to local
governments by the end of September, so we would appreciate a response as soon
as possible.
Please give me a call if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Lon Johnson, Deputy
State Historic Preservation Officer

The City of Bozeman is anxious to continue its local
historic preservation program. Certified Local Government status
would recognize the work of many people within the Bozeman com-
munity who have contributed to the preservation program and would
enable the community to continue its efforts to preserve its his-
toric resources .
