Dear City Commissioners,
I am writing to voice my opposition to the proposed 4 lane expansion of Kagy Blvd. I live on the South Side town
and often commute north with my children either walking or biking. Crossing Kagy Blvd is always a chore and,
quite frankly, dangerous. Have you ever tried crossing Kagy at 7 th or 11th? It seems to me that traffic has improved
quite a bit with the turn lane that was installed a few years ago. Cutting down a commute time by only 3-4 minutes
by creating a monster of a Boulevard seems like a waste of city funds. Traffic is already being diverted thru the
southside by way of the proposed thru streets. It is my understanding that Arnold street will soon cut thru from 11th
to S. 3rd. And I am sure there are plans to bring in thru streets from 19th across. Creating a freeway in the middle
of a campus/neighborhood commute isn’t a good fit. Students and the residents of Bozeman who commute by bike
or foot are the ones losing out if the 4 lane plan goes thru. Keeping the neighborhoods livable and walkable should
take precedence over cutting a commute time by 3 minutes. Enhance the bike lanes but don’t make a 4 lane
highway. Bozeman prides itself on its trails and neighborhoods. The plan to generate more traffic, create more air
pollution, endanger people with enjoy or need to commute by foot or bike, and put another highway thru town
doesn’t fall in line with Bozeman and its values.
Sincerely,
Kristy Johns
