Greetings,
I am writing to submit public comment for tonight's Agenda item I. Work Session, 1. Kagy
Boulevard Expansion Informational Session.
The report prepared by the Director of Public Works for the City Commission emphasizes the
planned "robust bike and pedestrian facilities" for the proposed 4-lane design, but does not
address the safety risks to nonmotorists from the road widening itself. This expensive project
will induce more automobile travel and increase the risk of traffic injuries and fatalities while
also emitting more air pollution, including particulate matter.
Five years ago, the majority of the public favored the smaller, three lane design. The public
has not had an opportunity to comment since.
Please provide an opportunity for a full public hearing for this expensive project. $4 million in
City funds and a total of $16.4 million could be so much better spent on transportation projects
that align with community values and goals around health, safety, climate change, and equity.
I strongly support a smaller, 3 lane design and ask that the City Commission not move forward
with the 4 lane design.
Sincerely,
Andrea Hamre
