Subject:S. 6th Ave. Proposed Improvements

Hello Katherine and Kellen, I am responding to the creation of the SID for S. 6th with favorbut of course I have input....my postcard got too small so here goes.
Yes to indicating interest at this time. I am concerned about surface improvement correlating with increased Speeds.
I hope you would do another accurate traffic count on S. 6th when MSU is fully in session andespecially in the 8-900 blocks as well as North to Babcock.
Additionally, my friends who live on S. Tracy say that cars really fly down the street after theycomplete their 15 mph School zone passing. If you could also get some traffic speeds, that
would be helpful. The fact that S. 6th is wider than S. Tracy and they areexperiencing increased speeds concerns me for our street once improved. Of course that can
all be remedied with calming as discussed below. As there are 3 blocks of S. 8th with a limited 15 mph speed limit posted, folks do choose S.
6th to take a downhill run from MSU to Babacock and ultimately to Downtown. S. 8th is moreoften Police patrolled due to the school district, but Cooper Park 1 block of 15 mph is never
ticketed nor patrolled. Therefore, I would like to continue to have S. 6th as a designated bicycle conduit with the
continued painting of the cycle on the pavement as well as 'Road Diet' design as often aspossible. Narrowing mid block, corner extension bulb outs, and both seasonal and permanent
traffic calming at intersections from Babcock to Cleveland. I think you will find greatneighbor support for all of the above and S. 6th could be a POSTER CHILD for future
calming opportunities and offer a sampling of designs. We are afterall a 'neighborhood street'.
I am also concerned with what Jerry Cashman has called to the attention of his Tree Walk forover 25 years, as the most beautiful Norway Maple specimen at 404 S. 6th. I have loved,
watered, trimmed, and raked that beautiful specimen for 35 years and the obvious concern isthe health of its root system.
Could you consider widening the boulevard and narrowing the street for a one block section ofS. 6th in the 400 block thus saving the Green Ash trees on Cooper Park boulevard (400 block)
that are also fragile and with little turf to expand their trunks and give this Maple some help aswell?
I am committed to a more permanent traffic calming circle at the corner of 6th and Koch (1st)and Story and 6th(2nd). I have said this before and I am going to be frank, I have lobbied for
Traffic Calming on corners in the Cooper Park Neighborhood since 1996. I was involved inthe partial closure of S. 6th at Cleveland and would like to see that become more permanent
rather than the current flimsy bollards. It is now, 24 years later, at the stage where I want calming more than grandchildren and
preferably before death. I will contribute financially as well to 6th & Koch corner.
I have been in communication with neighbors as you know via email, texts, door 2 door, andin community gatherings to get information effectively to all homeowners. I know you say
you don't have a vested interest in whether S. 6th is selected or not, but IF an SID is created, Iwill continue as a homeowner and INC Cooper Park representative to be a person whom you
can count on to forward questions to the appropriate City professional. Therefore, pleaseconsider my vote a Yes at this time.
Many thanks, for your efforts on this proposal.Lisa Prugh
