As a homeowner in the Meadow Creek neighborhood, I ask that the City Commission please consider the actual impact (not the alleged impact the developers would have you imagine) on the citizens who live in this neighborhood now. You may have noticed that the Affordable Housing item open for public comment on the Bozeman City Commission web site is completely empty, while this Buffalo Run project has 135 entries (as of this writing). Not a single Bozeman citizen has publicly expressed concern in this forum about affordable housing, at least not this year and never in regards to this development. This is a rhetorical device pushed by developers in order to maximize their own personal profit with limited political ramifications. It’s an attempt to pacify communities that have long enjoyed low-density housing to the idea of introducing high-density housing. This is not good for the community. This is good only for the developers. It will not make housing more affordable. It will be an intense detriment to the existing citizens of Bozeman. The fact that there are no public comments regarding affordable housing should indicate to you that the very reason many of us in the city of Bozeman are here, despite the high cost of living, is that we prefer to live in a place that is not over-populated and not consumed by high-density housing. We highly value (as does the marketplace) our mountain views and hearing the coyotes at night. Most of us bought homes in this specific neighborhood because we want to be far from commercial districts and high-rises, because we appreciate the quiet, the fact that it’s on the edge of town far from traffic. The community of Bozeman will not be improved by adding more 3-story houses, and especially not in this section of town. I urge you not to approve this plan and to specifically reject the R-5 district zoning of this area. Thank you for your consideration, and thank you for the service you provide on behalf of this community.
