HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-31-21 Public Comment - T. Andreasen - Buffalo Run DevelopmentFrom: Tanya Andreasen To: Agenda Subject: Buffalo Run annexation Date: Sunday, January 31, 2021 12:51:09 PM Although an employee of the City of Bozeman, I submit this comment as a resident, and Meadow Creek Subdivision neighbor. Having read the Community Plan, and specifically the decision making criteria, I understand that the applicant's request for R5 can be affirmed by the City Commission as the criteria are met - at least in basic terms. Further, I've read and have some basic understanding of the Future Land Use Map, and the projected growth pattern around my own neighborhood, and the City as a whole. Annexation is necessary to accommodate population growth, and with the priorities set by the community, so is density. Density means building up and on smaller lots, and it serves to preserve open space. It also means changes to traffic patterns, parking, view shed, and the look of our town city. Even with some understanding and personal perspective on the decision at hand, I believe that the grey area - the subjectivity that exists in this and many public decisions - is enough to warrant close consideration by the City Commission. I feel conflicted, because as much as change is difficult for me, I also feel that all Bozeman neighbors need to accept changes in the face of our growth. That includes me. In the instance of this particular decision, I believe that a compromise is in order. The concerns about increased traffic are warranted, as are concerns about usurping parkland and future high density home building next to single family homes on large lots. I am in favor of the annexation. I am in favor of the paving/improvement of Fowler and the build out of some Meadow Creek neighborhood streets (not one or the other) to mitigate some of the traffic impacts. I am in favor of less than R5 zoning - the intensity is too much and is incongruous to the physical development pattern immediately adjacent. I realize I'm not saying anything new, but I want to support the hard work that the many people involved with this difficult decision have put into discussion, advocacy, listening, and compromising.
