Transportation Framework
NWX is a well-connected neighborhood which provides vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian connections throughout and to the surrounding community. New development in NWX shall be designed in accordance with the intent of this Transportation Framework Plan. Flexibility in the location of these connections may be considered provided the intent of the primary north-south and east-west connections through the overall development is maintained. All public and private streets within NWX will be constructed to the applicable City standards for arterial, collector streets, local streets, and City-standard alleys.
To provide safe and efficient vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian travel and to ensure a distinct and enhanced natural aesthetic along each street in NWX, this plan includes street sections for the various streets within the community to be constructed with future development. Road construction will be phased with the build-out of each proposed new neighborhood. All external streets will be constructed in accordance with City of Bozeman Transportation Plan.
Internal Road NetworkThe street layout shown on the NWX Transportation Plan provides the backbone transportation facilities to serve the NWX community and provide the primary corridors to access the residential neighborhoods and commercial center. Interior streets consisting of Local Streets, Urban Edge Interface Streets, and Alleys will be built during the construction of each future phase in accordance with the NWX Phasing Plan.
NWX is designed with local access roads providing multi-modal connections north-south and east-west throughout the community. These roads are designed to provide safe pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular travel to the various neighborhood amenities throughout NWX. Traditions Dr. and Touchstone Ln. provide east-west connectivity through NWX. East-west connections are limited to minimize wetland and watercourse impacts so that these areas can provide the interconnected natural amenity and park areas throughout NWX. The intersection of Traditions Dr. and S. Cottonwood Rd. is located across from the planned primary western entrance into the Bozeman Sports Park. This intersection is designed with an enhanced pedestrian connection to provide visibility and safety for pedestrians crossing between the Sports Park and commercial center.
Rosa Way provides a north-south connection from Baxter Lane to W. Oak St. and creates the central access through the commercial center. Wellspring Dr. also creates the central east-west access connection through the commercial center. Twin Lakes Ave. establishes the western edge of the commercial area and creates an opportunity for street facing retail and office buildings.
Local Streets and Alleys provide connectivity between development parcels and access to individual lots and dwellings within the neighborhoods of NWX. These roads will be constructed with the development parcels under a future site plan or subdivision review.
Access from local streets to individual residences will be allowed but must meet the requirements of the City of Bozeman Unified Development Code. The roadway section to be used for Local Streets is designated on this plan.
Alleys provide another alternative to access individual residences other than the local street. The 30’ Standard Alley Section is provided herein for reference to the intended design standards.
Roadway IntersectionsRoadway intersections within NWX are designed to enhance pedestrian safety. Curb bulbs may be used to reduce traffic speeds and provide safer pedestrian crossings. Curb bulbs may also be used at mid-block/trail crossings. Parking will not be allowed at curb bulb locations. Some of the more prominent local intersections may incorporate traffic circles.
ParkingParking for all residential and non-residential uses will be provided with future phases of development in accordance with the applicable parking standards set forth in the UDC. Parking within the NWX residential neighborhoods is served through in-lot and on-street parking options. Residents are encouraged to utilize off street parking accommodated within individual homes and associated driveways. On-street parking is available to accommodate guest parking and varying needs of residents.
