At peak congestion, one of the main choke points is pedestrians preventing right and left turns for much if the light cycle. Given that there are already left turn lanes and left turn arrow lights (which are currently never green), before spending millions of dollars wouldn’t it be prudent to try programming lengthy dedicated advance turns and dedicated pedestrian walk times to get traffic flowing? I note that this approach is currently being utilized at 3rd and Kagy. Further, I have to guess that advances in technology would allow this to be programmed to be adapted to peak work and campus schedules. This HAS to be far less expensive, and won’t create an attractive feature for more cars to clog up. Is it not worth a try, soon? Thank you for your time and the work you do.
