Dear Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Commissioners,
I am writing in regard to the City's plan for the expansion of Kagy Avenue. A recent opinionpiece in the Bozeman Chronicle caused me concern that the City is ignoring previous input by
the community. While the author's hyperbole "rush fifteen minutes" is an understatement ofthe traffic some people face in our city the facts presented are not. The cost for this stretch of
Kagy is exorbitant and it is an ill conceived plan that will only produce an effect that willperpetuate the problem. New capacity does not alleviate traffic congestion.
The Community engagement plan was supportive of including multi-use trails and North-
South improvements that would diminish road usage. Community members often usealternative transportation to travel downtown, the high school and community events. Kagy
currently is the biggest obstacle to safe passage to these destinations. Expanding Kagy to fourlanes will only exacerbate the safety issue and add to traffic congestion as people opt to drive
rather than bike or walk.
I hope that the City will review this decision and allow public input once again beforeauthorizing this project.
Respectfully,
Kendall May
