Dear City Commission,
I have recently learned that there are potentially big plans to expand Kagy Blvd. I
would like to say that I am very opposed to any plans that would expand Kagy to 4
lanes.
I live on Cherry Dr, not far from the jct of Highland and Kagy. This means I use Kagy
about 50% of the time I leave my house by car. Other than a brief amount of time inthe morning and evening there is NO significant delaying traffic on Kagy. At 5 pm in
the afternoon, when everyone is getting out of the University or Hospital, one has to
expect more traffic. This does not mean that we need 4 lanes so that everyone can
drive more cars and drive faster. How about better public transportation or better bikelanes?
At most 3 lanes are needed on Kagy near the University. According to MDT’s own
planning documents, keeping Kagy as three lanes would result in 20% lower future traffic
volumes and emissions. Keeping three lanes would also shave millions from the project’s $16
million+ cost.
We do not need to encourage more people to drive by making more and wider roads. The
proposed project directly contradicts the goals outlined in the Bozeman Climate Plan to
reduce emissions and encourage active forms of transportation such as walking and biking.
Please DO NOT approve a 4 lane project for Kagy Blvd.
Sincerely,
Susan Perin
