I am writing about the Idaho Pole Superfund Site (stressing SUPERFUND). This item should be removed
from the consent agenda at the upcoming meeting. More opportunities for information and discussions
should be given to the local community. The concerns of over 50 letter writers in opposition should be a
clear sign that the City Commission is not doing their job of representing the public if they ram this through
without due process. It is my understanding in doing so that science and public health concerns will have
been ignored! The EPA claims that public health will continue to be protected as long as "institutional
controls" remain in place, limiting activity on the site. Problems with the proposed URD is the fact a) the
new development would likely require significant disturbance of polluted soils, b) there would likely be
increased exposure of the site, and c) there could be an increased transmission of harmful pollutants
through local groundwater. For these reasons, our Board of Health asked you, our elected representatives,
not to create at the URD at this time. I am curious if you are not listening to the local citizens' concerns,
who you work for, and you are not listening to the Board of Health, who are you listening to?
