Attn: Bozeman Planning Department,
I'd like to register a public comment about the planned development on Southbridge Dr. and 20th Ave
(Southbridge Living - 20173). My comment is about the infrastructure needed to support the development
and the Southbridge community. Since construction started on the condos on the north side of Southbridge
Dr., it is clear that Southbridge Dr. is now a major artery to and from the Southbridge neighborhood. It is
also clear that Southbridge Dr. is too narrow in its current state to continue to meet the needs of the
growing community.
Presently, on any given day there are 4-6 resident cars and guests parked both sides of Southbridge Dr.
between 19th and 20th Ave, creating a hazardous one lane bottleneck that spills out on 19th Ave. I’ve seen
several near-accidents as cars entering and exiting the community play a game of chicken, and I worry that
it is not if but when an accident will occur. The dangerousness of the bottleneck increases when snow and
ice are present, as Southbridge Dr. is not regularly plowed. The problem with cars lining both sides of
Southbridge Drive will almost certainly get worse with the new development, particularly to the extent that
the units in the development will each house multiple adults with potentially a higher number of cars than
allotted parking spaces.
I seek consideration for one of two options to be completed prior to construction.
1. Widen Southbridge Dr. between 19th ave and 20th ave to accommodate the width of four or five
vehicles vs the three in its current state.
2. Make the south side of Southbridge Dr. a no parking zone from 19th to 20th, and enforce the no parking
zone.
I would ask this to be completed prior to construction starting as one can assume that construction
vehicles, both heavy equipment and personal transportation, will line the street for the foreseeable thus
creating a hazardous driving condition for my family and the neighborhood.
