HomeMy WebLinkAbout20292 Blackwood Groves - Park ProposalPARKS, OPEN SPACE AND
TRAILS
The Blackwood Road development plan
incorporates a series of open spaces
and landscapes that adhere to multiple
scales and programs. Depending on its
location, size and adjacent land uses,
these parks, open spaces and public
realm elements provide nature-based
refuges and spaces for community
gatherings. The open space program
places useable outdoor spaces within
all attached residential and mixed-
use commercial areas, with direct
connections to neighborhood parks. All
street frontages will have continuous
sidewalks providing consistent
pedestrian connections throughout.
Neighborhood Parks - Parks,
generally located along drainage
ways, serve the Blackwood Groves
community and are intended to be city-
wide amenities
Linear Greenways / Community
Courtyards - Open space linkages
providing common open space
for individual developments,
connecting development parcels to
neighborhood parks, and connecting
individual neighborhoods throughout
the project making it feel like one
greater community.

Community courtyards or pocket
parks provide small scale moments or
vestibules of recreation through lawns,
shaded canopies, seating, picnic tables,
and small play structures. Standard
sizes are typically less than an acre, and
are located within the single-family and
medium density blocks.
LINEAR GREENWAYS
Linear greenways are considered
thoroughfares within the natural
environment devoted to off-street
bikeways and pedestrian trails. These
corridors provide alternative means of
travel or recreation for a community, and
are typically situated along easements,
streams and tributaries. Amenities
include trails, site furnishings and
plantings.
