I stand with the Board of Health and ask that the City Commission REJECT the proposal to create an Urban
Renewal District for the Pole Yard Area at this time.
The letter from the Board of Health to the City Commission dated 22 Oct 2020 clearly states concerns for
groundwater contamination, and human health risks, that need to be better assessed and addressed before
this proposal is passed.
The letter from the Board of Health clearly highlights deficiencies in current EPA and city assessments that
should be examined before development is planned. For example, they have not ensured that future water
and sewer infrastructure will not transport contaminated groundwater into the East Gallatin River.
Proposed ordinance no. 2055 overlooks the Board of Health's concern for the health and safety of our
community. Furthermore, the memo to the city commission from The Director of Economic Development
puts economic growth and development (unnecessary development) above the health of the community
members and resources (groundwater).
Please REJECT the proposal to create an Urban Renewal District for the Pole Yard Area until appropriate
environmental assessments are completed.
