Weed Survey and Management Plan for Norton East Ranch Phase V
Survey completed May 15,2018
406 Weed Control LLC
The property comprises approximately 37 acres bordered on the south by W Babcock and on the easy
by Laurel Parkway. "The Lakes" subdivision creates the north border.A fenceline defines the west
border. The property will be subdivided into 143 residential lots, a wetland area and two open areas.
Currently there is a cultivated winter wheat field of approximately 8 acres in the center of the property.
An area of deep marsh grass and cattails extends along the north fenceline and southeast to Laurel
Parkway.
A temporary retaining pond has been constructed on the southwest corner.
The south end along W Babcock and approximately 100 yards wide has been cleared to flat dirt and dirt
piles. A dirt berm has been constructed along the northwest edge of the property.
The balance of the property is in native grass and weeds and was mowed in late 2017.

Noxious Weeds Present
Noxious weeds are primarily contained in the south and west sides of the property as noted on the
image as the "Main Application Area. The primary noxious weeds present are Canadian Thistle and
Hoary Alyssum which are scattered throughout but most prevalent along the west side from the
temporary pond north to the fence line. The constructed dirt berm is covered with patches of Hoary
Alyssum. Musk and Bull thistle rosettes are found scattered along the west side and southeast corner of
the noted application area. Houndstongue is not common but several rosettes were noted emergent
along the west side north of the temporary pond.
This main application area, which comprises approximately 10 acres and was mowed in 2017 will require
both broadcast spraying and some hand and spot spraying to provide effective coverage. The berm will
require hand spraying as the sides are too steep for boom spraying.
The cattail/marsh area is currently relatively free of weeds. Deep, thick grass cover and wetlands have
prevented weeds from growing.
The cultivated winter wheat field had no observed noxious weeds.
The flat, mowed areas surrounding the wheat field and along the north end of Laurel parkway and west
have scattered Canadian thistle that will require some spot spraying for control.
Management Plan—
Method - Use a combination of broadcast and heavy spot spraying to cover the main application area of
approximately ten acres. Due to the presence of Hoary Alyssum and Houndstongue we will utilize a
combination of Dow Chaparral and an amine 2,4D applied at 2.5 ounces per acre for the Chaparral and
one quart per acre with the 2,4D. In addition, a surfactant such as Activator 90 or Liberate will be added
at 16 ounces (1 pt.) per acre. Herbicides will be diluted and applied at 12.5 gallons per acre.
The balance of the property should be inspected and spot sprayed for Canadian Thistle using the same
herbicide mix. We estimate two hours to be adequate for gridding the property and spraying the
occasional noxious weed found.
Timing—For maximizing control, spring application should be made between mid-May and mid-June.
Years 2&3—An effective treatment in year 1 should reduce required application costs in years 2 and 3.
A spring follow up spot spraying will be required, especially as construction results in disturbed earth.
We are estimating six hours in year two and two hours in year three for a follow up application. Timing
should be early June for best visibility of emergent weeds prior to bolting.
Application Cost—
Year 1-10 acres broadcast/spot sprayed at$80/acre average cost and two hours spot spraying at$120
per hour. Total cost of$1040.00
Year 2—Six hours spot spraying over property at$120 per hour.Total $720.00
Year 3—Two hours spraying at$120.00 per hour.Total $240
