HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-09-20 Public comment - J & J Jelinski - Opposed to Ordinance No. 2055 Pole Yard URDFrom:Jack and Jane Jelinski To:Agenda Subject:Ordinance No. 2055 Date:Monday, November 9, 2020 4:43:02 PM Commissioners, Please enter into the record our opposition to Ordinance 2055 to create the Pole Yard UrbanRenewal District to incentivize development off L Street between 1-90 and the railroad. We concurwith the concerns sent to you by the City County Board of Health and the NENA Neighborhoodopposition to the proposal. In addition to their detailed concerns, we would add that while TIFs have been effectively utilized in Bozeman, we believe they are now being overused. They constrainschool property tax revenues in a time when the schools are struggling to address the increased costsof dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, and they shift the costs of developing the infrastructure forthe area from the interested developers to Bozeman property taxpayers at a time when the costs of extreme growth and development are rapidly increasing residents’ property taxes. We do not need toincentivize development in this area at when every resource of the city is being overwhelmed byrapid growth. We believe it is time to take a deep breath and pause the speed of development inBozeman. Please vote no on Ordinance No. 2055.
