Parks Report November 20
• Crews have been busy winterizing irrigation systems, restrooms and the
general “getting ready for winter.” (Tennis and volleyball nets down,
summer equipment put to bed for the winter, etc…)
• Before the snow, crews have been busy getting the leaves to the curb for
removal by the Street Division and mulching the stray leaves with the
mowers.
• Sound mitigation boards and dasher boards will be installed in the coming
weeks- prepping for the ice rink at the Anderson Pavilion @ Bogert Park.
• The crews have already plowed the sidewalks twice and as of this writing,
still moving snow around.
• Although it is starting to look like winter, we are hoping for some really cold
weather to start the frost settling in the ground for ice rinks- as of now- we
have an 8 inch blanket (snow cover) that is insulating the ground. Stay
tuned!
Recreation Division Update
Jamie Saitta, Recreation Manager
11/9/2020
• Holly Crane, Assistant Recreation Manager, and I attended the National Recreation
and Park Association’s Annual Conference virtually last week. The theme was
“Pride, Resilience, Hope and Community” and brought together thousands of Parks
and Recreation professionals through an online platform that was interactive and
engaging. It was an inspiring conference and we are both excited to incorporate
some new ideas into the work with do for our community. Stay tuned!
• The Recreation Division successfully implemented 2 sessions of our new Operation
Rec Ed camps for children in K-8th grades during the months of September and
October. This service was offered to city of Bozeman employees at no cost and
was developed to support the Bozeman School Districts Blended return to school
model. Two sessions were offered, one on Monday and Tuesday and one on
Thursday and Friday from 7:45am-5:30pm at the Story Mill Community Center. Our
popular camp model was followed with time and assistance with remote learning
scheduled throughout the day. We partnered with the Bozeman Public Library as
well as the MSU Education Department to offer reading support and tutoring along
with book and tech clubs which have historically happened during the after school
programs in each elementary school. The Bozeman School District moved into the
Cohort Model on November 2nd which has students back to school in person 5 days
a week. Operation Rec Ed camps are on hold for now and if the district moves back
to the blended model, we will do our best to bring them back.
• Our focus in Recreation has now shifted to winter program planning and we have
some fun (and safe) ideas up our sleeves! The pandemic has certainly changed
how our programs are developed and implemented and has illuminated the
importance of remaining flexible and fluid and having a great plan B, C and D!
