Spitler - Growth PolicyFrom:Paul Spitler To:Agenda Cc:Terry Cunningham Subject:Growth Policy Date:Wednesday, November 4, 2020 12:51:17 PM Dear Commissioners: I am a member of the Bozeman Planning Board and Bozeman Zoning Board, but write today as anindividual, and not on behalf of those bodies, to respectfully request that you approve the proposedCommunity Plan. Using direction from the City Commission, as well as several volunteer boards, along with feedback fromhundreds of Bozeman residents, city staff developed the Community Plan to reflect the City's desireddirection for future growth. While not perfect, this is a strong growth policy that encourages smart growth--infill development thatcreates walkable and bikable neighborhoods that are close to commercial centers and promotesneighborhoods. The plan addresses many City priorities, including climate change, affordable housing, parks and trails, and open space. It is a strong plan that will help keep Bozeman a great place to live andwork. The plan will be strengthened, as Commissioner Cunningham has suggested, by the City completing andincorporating the results of it's strategic plan direction (Sec. 6.6) to "identify at-risk, environmentallysensitive parcels contribute to water quality, wildlife corridors, and wildlife habitat." I support incorporatingthis into the plan, and implementing it as soon as is feasible. Thank you for your commitment to Bozeman and your consideration of these comments. Sincerely,Paul Spitler
