of Bozeman 2021 Legislative Priorities
MEETING DATE: November 9, 2020
AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Work Session
RECOMMENDATION: Discuss the City’s 2021 Legislative Priorities with members of the
local state legislative delegation. Solicit advice on how best to advance the goals of the priorities document. Receive an update on plans for the 2021 legislative session.
STRATEGIC PLAN: 1.3 Public Agencies Collaboration - Foster successful collaboration with other public agencies and build on these successes. f) Develop and support a legislative agenda.
BACKGROUND: Over the past several sessions of the Montana State Legislature, the City of Bozeman has developed a prioritized legislative agenda for Commission consideration and adoption. The Commission adopted the 2021 Legislative Priorities and Agenda document on September 22, 2020. (Attachment # 2)
In August, the City Commission met with member of our local State Legislative delegation to
solicit feedback on the city’s identified agenda and priorities for the 2021 session. The meeting on November 9th is a continuation of that conversation. The City Commission is seeking advice and input from the local delegation on how best to pursue identified priorities and how to assist in completing the goals set forward. Finally, the Commission will receive an update from the
delegation about plans for a modified legislative session due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Further, the City has hired MacDonald Consulting, namely John MacDonald and SK Rossi, to provide lobbying services during the 2021 legislative session. They will be in attendance on the Cisco Webex Software as well.
UNRESOLVED ISSUES: None ALTERNATIVES: As proposed by the City Commission.
