Dear Mayor Andrus and Commissioners Cunningham, Pomeroy, Wallner and
Madgic,
I am writing to express my concern over the possible delay to the scheduled
improvements to Griffin Dr. that would delay the construction and opening of
HRDC's Griffin Place facility. The HRDC has been working with the city for some
time now to ensure that these improvements will take place as scheduled. Let meexplain why Griffin Place is so important.
Our vision for Griffin Place is to provide wrap around services for our customers in
one location, to help them with shelter, food, and the assistance they need to moveback to self-sufficiency, all in one location. This is essential for people who are incrisis and cannot easily negotiate accessing services in several locations.
The facility will include:
1. A new and expanded food bank, as our current facility is much too small,
causing inefficiencies in food storage, and posing significant challenges to ourcustomers and our donors. The current kitchen is inadequate for the manyservice and educational programs it supports.
2. The Fork and Spoon will be moved there, to better serve our customers,
including those in the emergency shelter.
3. The emergency shelter will be there, it will be larger, and will house bothHRDC and partner's services to support those customers.
We knew we needed this facility prior to the pandemic, and since then, it hasbecome obvious that our community needs it urgently.
I hope that you will not postpone the scheduled improvement on Griffin Dr, which
would negatively impact the most vulnerable citizens of our community.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss this further.
with regards,Linda M Young
