Dear City Commissioners,
I am a long time resident in the Northeast Neighborhood and I am concerned about a timely issue.
I understand you will be voting about whether to incentivize development around the Idaho Pole Superfund Site. From what I
understand, there is not enough information to even pose this questions safely yet. The City should postpone any decisions
until it is unequivocally deemed safe and logical to plan any development at the site.
Here are my bulleted concerns:
1. The Five Year Review by the EPA, concludes that the site is currently leaching contaminants to the groundwater above
acceptable risk standards.
2. The site contains a treated soils area and contaminated groundwater area that cannot be disturbed.
3. All the traffic generated from development would route through the residential NE neighborhood unless the city invests in a
new arterial route. Are there any plans for this?
4. In the City Engineer’s “Statement of Infrastructure Deficiency” it lists Front Street as a “local street” that must be
constructed according to standards. Yet the City Commission just last week approved creating the Front Street pedestrian-only
trail.
Please postpone your vote about incentivizing until after the site has been fully remediated and all potential impacts to our
neighborhood addressed.
Thank you,
Angela Kociolek
