MEETING DATE: October 27, 2020 AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Consent RECOMMENDATION: Ratify the Fire Department acceptance of a grant for a hazardous materials drone from the Montana Department of Homeland Security. BACKGROUND: City Administrative Order 2014-01 requires notification of the City Manager and City Commission of any grant application or receipt of grants exceeding $20,000 within 30 days of the application or receipt. The City of Billings Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team put in a grant application with State Homeland Security for hazardous materials drones, one for each of the six regional hazardous materials teams. As the City of Billings was the applicant for this grant, a grant routing form was not submitted by Bozeman Fire during the application period. Billings Fire has received this grant and the award is to give each regional hazardous materials team a drone with thermal imaging and gas detecting technology. The grant also covers the cost of training, licensure, and any personnel cost associated with the training and licensure. Total value to the City of Bozeman is around $70,000. The Bozeman Fire Department is seeking approval from City Commission to formally accept the grant. The grant has a zero match requirement. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Commission FISCAL EFFECTS: None at this time as the grant has no required matching funds.
