Honorable members of the Commission:
I am writing to encourage you to approve the trail-related action items at tonight’s City Commission
meeting. I believe that the two projects are highly worthwhile to the community in terms of enhancing
quality of life, alternate modes of transportation, and neighborhood connectivity. Please approve these
projects and move long-standing concepts closer to construction (Front Street Connector, item #2) and
development (east-west trail and pathway network, item #4).
We Bozeman residents are fortunate to have a City government that values and collaborates with citizens
and stakeholders who are dedicated to a balanced and thoughtful approach to growth. As Bozeman
inevitably spreads to the north and west, GVLT and other stakeholders are providing vision and guidance
about how to expand and link current routes via an east-west trail and pathway network. Constructing the
Front Street Connector Pathway has been conceptually approved for years and is the one of the essential
steps in this vision. It will tie into Rouse Ave and Oak Street bike paths and connect neighborhoods and
schools to the west to the Story Mill Park, M Trail Pathway and Highland Glen-Painted Hills-Triple Tree
systems. I live in the northeast neighborhood and will use this connector to access the Cannery District and
services on Oak St and 19th Ave by foot and bicycle. Thanks in part to community support for two open
space bonds measures over the years, we have incredible amenities such as the Main Street to the
Mountains pathway system and the new Story Mill Park. But with inevitable growth we also need to be
thinking about linking the north and west neighborhoods both to Main Street and the Mountains.
Thank you for considering my thoughts and for working to keep our community healthy, safe, and vibrant.
Sincerely,
Shana Wood
