RE: Adopt Resolution 5147
October 13, 2020
Distinguished Bozeman City Commission Members,
My name is Reno Walsh. My family and I live at 724 N. Bozeman Ave. I am also the president of
the Northeast Neighborhood Association (NENA). This pubic comment reflects my views and
the views of NENA.
In 2002 NENA applied for and received two grants from Fish, Wildlife & Parks to clean up and
protect a formerly active small wetland next to the old Front Street train depot. They also
created the Depot Trail Connector. The Depot Trail directly connects to the Story Mill Spur Trail.
In 2015 the City Of Bozeman and GVLT envisioned the Front Street Connector Trail and
approved funding. The project was then put on hold. This important connector trail will
complement the Depot Connector and Story Mill Spur Trail. It will clean up a disregarded piece
of land that is now rampant with invasive plants and garbage much like the Depot Trail
Connector did. Most important, it will provide a safe route for pedestrians traveling east and
west.
The Front Street Connector Trail will connect to the Oak Street pathway and points west
including the Cannery District, Fairgrounds, and the Safety Center.
The trail will provide an important and safe route via the connecting Story Mill Spur Trail for
pedestrians accessing or returning from the Story Mill Park, the “M”, Drinking Horse, the Glen
Lake Rotary Park, the trails along Bridger Creek, and more.
The Front Street Connector Trail will provide a safe connection via the Depot Trail Connector to
get pedestrians coming from the west just a little closer to two of Bozeman’s Breweries, the
Depot Climbing Boulder, the library, Lindley Park, Pete’s Hill and more.
It is time to make this happen. This project has been delayed for over five years. The Northeast
Neighborhood Association supports the recommendation of the TOP Committee to fund the
project at the level recommended to move this project forward. We hope the commission will
approve those funds.
Thank you and please take care,
Reno Walsh
