Don Beeman Comments for Commissioners Meeting Not Related to an Agenda Item October 13, 2020 Submitted by Don Beeman, Chairperson, Trails, Open Space and Parks Committee Member of TOP Committee 2013 - 2016 Chair of TOP Committee 2017 - present I wish to make a note of the accomplishments of the 2012 bond initiative designating $15 million to be used to to advance parks, trails, and open space through development, and purchase and maintenance of said projects. Since the bond was approved by over 70% voting in favor of the initiative the committee had broad support when selecting projects to fund with the $15 million. The committee implemented a process that allowed us to review, evaluate, and interact with proponents of the different projects. With these resources, the committee recommended, and the commissioner s approved , projects on Sourdough creek at Bogart Park, Bozeman Ponds, Story Mill Park, Trail to the M, and soccer recreation fields. The city and county make use of these locations and now that they are nearing or have concluded, it seems worthy to reflect on these accomplishments. Many people have worked directly on these projects and many indirectly. This group of citizens that have worked on the TOPC done so out of their free time and and volunteered to get the work done. The city employees who are responsible for the oversight and project panning and construction have worked to have a coordinated impact on the facilities . Rather than mentioning them individually in this letter, let’s just agree that you know who you are. The folks working on these projects, supported by dozens and dozens of people has yielded outstanding results. Public, private cooperation, funding from outside groups and a willingness to believe that government can work have enabled these projects to grow. What a wonderful way to help make Bozeman, Bozeman.
