Hoerr - Christopher Coburn for City Commission VacancyFrom:Ethan Hoerr To:Agenda Subject:City Commissioner: Chris Coburn Date:Wednesday, October 7, 2020 5:44:20 PM Hello, I am writing in support of Christopher Coburn for City Commissioner! Here are some reasons why I support him: Bozeman has never had a Black City Commissioner. Representation means our community and our youth can imagine different sorts of leaders. It also means someone can speak to the experiences of racism that are so omnipresent in our town. COVID isn’t over, and a public health expert is the perfect leader to help us get through it. Case counts are exploding in our county—we need a leader with the expertise to keep us safe. Chris would bring a number of unseen identities and experiences to the Commission: he’d be the only Commissioner raised in Montana, the only Commissioner raised by a single mother, the only Commissioner with student loans, the only Commissioner who rents his home, the only queer Commissioner, etc. Local government that only represents a certain type of person fails to be a true part of its community, and appointing Chris would help change that. Our previous mayor resigned after bullying/mistreating City staff and breaching rules of behavior. Chris is not only a really nice guy, but someone who understands how city and county governments work and follows the rules. Chris shows up to community events (including ours), and is engaged with a large number of organizations and non-profits in town. He’s actually out in the town, listening to the needs of citizens. The city needs Commissioners who actively respond to what we, the community, request. Thank you for your time. Best wishes,Ethan Hoerr Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.
