Porth To:Agenda Cc:christopherdcoburn@gmail.com; Mark Egge; hvanwetter@gmail.com Subject:City Commission Candidates Date:Tuesday, October 6, 2020 3:34:30 PM Hello Commissioners, I respectfully submit my wholehearted support for three inspiring young leaders who areinterested in serving the City of Bozeman as City Commissioner. I've been overwhelmed by the interest of my peers in serving the City and leading our growing community through thorny issues and the challenges that lie ahead. Their willingness to divein and find common ground solutions has given me hope through uncertain times. Even more, we're staring down an uncertain future. Your appointment is an incredibly important one. Iencourage you to consider the following: Who is missing from our table? What voices will enrich our decision making? What communities are being overlooked or left out? In my professional role as the Associate Director at the Gallatin Valley Land Trust, I've hadthe pleasure of facilitating our NextGen Advisory Board, a group of thoughtful young professionals passionate about our mission of trails and open space. If I've learned one thingfrom that experience it is that you cannot, and must not, overlook or underestimate the impact and abilities of young people. For too long our elected officials have represented the people inour community who have the resources and time to serve and lead. The demographics in our community are shifting and I encourage you to appoint a leader who represents that shift, andthe future generations of Bozeman. Young people (for simplicity, under 45) have unique perspectives, fresh ideas, and energy to take us boldly into the next chapter as a city. I encourage you to add extra consideration to Christopher Coburn, Mark Egge andHannah Van Wetter as candidates. I know all three personally and have worked with all three professionally. I have seen each lead with humility, ingenuity, and optimism. Thank you for your consideration and your service to the City of Bozeman. Sincerely, EJ Porth -- E.J.
