To Whom This May Concern:
I am writing in support of Chris as City Commissioner. I believe visibility and diversity in
representation is incredibly important to fostering our best selves as a community.
Chris would bring a number of unseen identities and experiences to the Commission: he’d
be the only Commissioner raised in Montana, the only Commissioner raised by a single
mother, the only Commissioner with student loans, the only Commissioner who rents his
home, the only queer Commissioner, etc. Local government that only represents a certain
type of person fails to be a true part of its community, and appointing Chris would help
change that.
As a long time Montana resident these are identities that are important to me and help me
sculpt a more realistic view of how I fit into this community.
Additionally, COVID has no light at the end of the tunnel and Chris's public health
background is of extreme value to me. We need a leader with expertise in this area to make
informed decisions for the community at large. I trust that due to his background as a
Montanan first, Chris's influence in this area would be both well-informed and respect
individual rights.
After the chaos of our last mayor, I also want to note that I am looking forward to someone
like Chris who understands city and country government works and has a good track record
of playing respectfully by them.
Finally, and most importantly, Chris shows up and engages in community in a way that I
believe is vital to the continued thriving of Bozeman. His visibility and efforts to connect with
real citizens in the community makes me feel seen and heard and gives me trust in our
systems.
Thank you for your time in considering my remarks. I look forward to hearing the outcomes.
