Hello,
My name is Katie Veteto.
I am a Bozeman resident of five years, an undergraduate student at Montana State University in the Civil
Engineering Program, a community advocate, and an outdoor educator. I’m writing to express my public comment
on the candidates being considered for the vacancy within the City Commission. In reviewing the candidates and the
responsibilities of the City Commissioner, I feel strongly that Christopher Coburn is the best suited candidate for the
vacancy.
I believe that Coburn’s background in public health would be a crucial tool for the city of Bozeman. The ongoing
COVID-19 pandemic has strained our communities resources, continually creating new questions about how we
move forward and address arising problems. Coburn’s background as a public health professional speaks volumes to
the potential they hold to make positive change and responsible decisions surrounding public health issues.
As a young woman in Bozeman who rents, I am thrilled at the possibility of having a representative such as Coburn
who themselves is a minority and a renter. Having young diverse voices in our local government is hugely
impactful.
In regards to their focus on equity, they’ve vocalized importance on advocating for gender and racial equity. As seen
in Bozeman’s historical record, Gallatin county is not void of racial and gender inequities and inequalities. I’m
excited to advocate for a candidate such as Coburn who I believe will work towards creating a just, free and
inclusive Bozeman for all.
Thank you for your time,
Katie Veteto
