HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-01-20 Public Comment - J. Loesel - Affordable Housing (201 S. Willson Ave) Sept. 28, 2020 Mayor Cyndy Andrus, I am a sixty-seven year old woman living on a fixed income. I am also a Veteran. In the near future I will probably become a member of the fastest growing population in the United States, the homeless . Why? Because there are no homes/apartments for the low-income people like me in Bozeman. Yes, there is a horrendous amount of construction going on. None of it is low-income housing. Commonly called Section 8 housing. HRDC has low-income housing. They will give you a list of those places . There is just one problem. The waiting list to get into one of these apartments if years if not decades long. Why? There are to many applicants and not enough apartments . More places need to be built, now. I know where the city can put them. One area is at 5th and Tamarck Street. I think you could put one hundred units there. A second place is on Oak Street across from Kenyon Noble Lumber. The third place is on Cattail and 19th. The area is empty all the way down to 27th Street. My fourth candidate for low-income houses is on Tschache Lane just past the complex at 2420 address . The lot/block is empty all the way down to 27th Street. The last choice is across from Wall Mart or just down from Wall Mart towards Rouse. Conclusion there are plenty of places to build. All you have to do is start building. "The plight of the homeless is a disgrace to a city, any city. This happens when government puts funds to other programs , or mismanages the money. If the Unites States can fund a was they can fund the social services that serve the homeless ." , a quote from a biography of Jerry Orbach. How true this statement is . So very true. I am so very scared, terrified that I will be on the street. I 've never lived on the street, I wouldn' t know how. I am not a piece of garbage to be swept into the gutter. I deserve to be treated with respect, so does everyone. The building I live in is being sold to a rich`,out-of-state person who wants to put up an expensive condo. "He can build in his own state. What right does he have to take my home away from me? True I don' t own the building but I live here. I don' t want to leave. Mayor Andrus can you, will you help? Yours , td-4
