Lewis St #306, Livingston, MT 59047 Bozeman City Commission 121 North Rouse Bozeman MT 59715 September 23, 2020 Dear Commissioners, I have had the pleasure of working with Jennifer Madgic for the past five years, first as the regional director for Senator Jon Tester and now as a community planning consultant in Park County. In both roles Jennifer has been a pleasure to work with -- thoughtful, engaging and full of good ideas about how a community can create positive change. I have no doubt that she would be a productive and engaged member of the Bozeman City Commission, working hard for the people of Bozeman. I write to give Jen my fullest endorsement to serve on the Bozeman City Commission. In her role as Senator Tester’s regional director, Jen met regularly with our community and not only helped us earn Senator Tester’s support, but also helped shape a bi-partisan effort to prevent mining on the border of Yellowstone. Jen went above and beyond her responsibility as Senator Tester’s local representative, she helped our community think through strategy, messaging, and outreach. As a result, we built a successful campaign that culminated with the passage of bi-partisan federal legislation preventing mining on 30,000 acres in Yellowstone’s northern gateway -- the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act signed into law by President Trump. I have also had the pleasure of working with Jen in her new capacity as a community planning consultant in Park County. Jen understands that Park County and Livingston are special places, and like Bozeman, vulnerable to the increasing demand to live in and around Yellowstone. She understands the different tools available to help communities like ours shape our future, rather than allow developers to shape our future. Over the past several years Jen has helped our community begin the process of updating our growth policy. Jen wrote grants for the City of Livingston and organized a series of community speakers to educate our community, board members and elected officials about good planning and how to use the growth policy to set out a shared vision. As a result of Jen’s work, our community has seen significant and historic public engagement in planning efforts. P.O. Box 164 - Livingston, Montana - 59047 - 406-222-0723 Jen will make an excellent City Commission because Jen values community voices and ideas. Jen is an excellent listener. She understands and believes in following good processes in order to get the best outcomes for a community. She serves on the Bozeman Planning Board and also has sat through many Livingston Planning Board and City Commission meetings patiently answering questions, referring to her well-worn copy of the MCA, and helping community leaders find the answers they need. I am incredibly confident in my recommendation of Jen Madgic to the Bozeman City Commission. I guarantee you will find that Jen works well with others, understands good process, but most importantly -- Jen cares deeply about this place and the people that live in Southwest Montana.
