Rouse Bozeman, MT 59715 Re: City Commissioner Appointment Letter in Support of Jennifer Madgic Dear City Commissioners, This letter is in support of appointing Jennifer Madgic to fill the City Commissioner position currently vacant with the City of Bozeman. I have known Jennifer Madgic professionally and personally for more than 25 years. In every endeavor, Jennifer is intelligent, ethical, hardworking, community minded and fair. I first met Jennifer when we both worked as Planners for the City of Helena. Jennifer’s keen insight and deep knowledge in the many issues related to community planning earned her respect in both the public and private sector. After several years, Jennifer joined the Gallatin County Planning Department, rising to the position of County Planning Director for one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S. Under her leadership, the county developed some of the most innovative solutions to growth challenges in the country. Jennifer’s expertise was notable, and she was tapped by U.S. Senator Jon Tester to serve as his Bozeman field representative for more than 11 years. For the past three years, Jennifer has been an independent planning consultant working on issues with Livingston and Park County. Jennifer’s vast experience, knowledge, and ability to work with diverse perspectives will be of great service to the City of Bozeman. Specifically, Jennifer is committed to: • Continue work updating the community plan (growth policy), helping to forward key community priorities including affordable, accessible housing and quality neighborhoods. • Give guidance on helping make the city’s planning process more user-friendly and inclusive while maintaining community integrity. • Work to restore and strengthen the city/county relationship. • Foster a collegial working environment. 2 | P a g e 2921 2nd Ave N I Billings, MT 59101 I rebelrivercreative.com Bozeman City Commissioners September 25, 2020 • Actively support action to diversity participation on city boards. • Support local businesses, including local food and urban agriculture. • Work to make all of Bozeman more pedestrian and bike-friendly, with connections outside of the city. • Preparation for climate and COVID-19 related in-migration. Jennifer has a master’s degree in community planning from the University of Rhode Island and worked for the Rhode Island and Montana legislatures. She is committed to community volunteerism, having served on the Bozeman Planning Board for two and a half years and on the Bozeman Co-op Board for seven years, including Board Chair. Jennifer grew up in Palo Alto, CA, where she witnessed firsthand the effects of rapid growth and transformation. She has the education, knowledge, and expertise to help shape the city of Bozeman as a model for modern communities. It is without reservation that I give my highest and most enthusiastic recommendation that Jennifer Madgic be appointed to fill the position of City Commissioner.
