Re: City Commission Appointment
Date: September 29, 2020
I reside at 885 Brookdale Drive in Bozeman, I am registered to vote, and I am over
18 years of age.
I have been an active community member ever since moving to Bozeman in 2009. I
researched and provided greenhouse gas reduction metrics for building-related
recommendations for Bozeman’s initial Community Climate Action Plan. I also
served on the current Climate Partners Working Group recommending net zero
energy goals for city buildings. I presented on high-performance building programs
to Bozeman’s Affordable Housing Advisory Board and have provided input on
various agenda items at city commission meetings.
In our community and region, I cut invasive weeds as a member of the Sacajawea
Audubon Society and remove and alter fence to help antelope migration with the
National Parks Conservation Association. I volunteer at the Gallatin County Election
Office during elections, serve on the Montana Renewable Energy Association’s
Board of Directors, and teach Energy & Sustainability for MSU’s Gallatin College.
As a City of Bozeman Commissioner, I would:
► listen attentively to the concerns and suggestions of all Bozeman citizens –
especially those that think and view the world differently than I do,
► read all guiding documents and use them as the lens through which I would study,
consider various viewpoints, and vote on agenda items,
► give special attention to and study agenda items related to Bozeman’s water
conservation and sustainability plans. Climate change impacts Bozeman
economically, socially, and environmentally and must be proactively addressed to
keep our community healthy and vibrant. I would work with staff to see if Bozeman
can provide training and incentives to encourage sustainable growth that supports
Bozeman’s Water Conservation and Sustainability Office goals.
My vision is for Bozeman to lead by example and inspire citizens. It would be an
honor to serve as a Bozeman City Commissioner!
Sincerely,
Susan Bilo
