It is my concern that the City of Bozeman, dept. of community Development, water conservation board, zoning, etc. is approving hot water systems in thesemulti level, high density, hundreds of unit housing projects with out taking intoconsideration the water wasting hot water systems that are being installed. The architect, and builder that built Talbach House, South Row and the futureGran Cielo on W. Graf should have been held responsible before the buildingswere built by the City of Bozeman, Water Conservation dept. and buildinginspectors to assure water conservation.
I live in the building on the corner of W Graf and Enterprise Blvd., TalbachHouse. There are approximately 60 units, an average of 120 residents, a drop inthe bucket compared to “Graf St. Apartments”. The builder installed a waterheating system in each unit that is a shamefully water wasting system. We allcomplain about how much water is wasted daily. In order to wash your face, hands, dishes, etc. we have to let the water run untilthe cold water starts to turn to lukewarm and eventually turn to hot water that isunless you love washing your face with cold water. This takes approximately agallon and a half (I measured it) of cold water running until the water starts to getlukewarm to a temperature close to hot enough to wash anything. A GALLONAND A HALF of cold water wasted until warm water begins to flow. That is 180gallons of cold water wasted for everyone in this building per hand wash. EACHTIME! Throughout the day or night. If we wait an hour, the water is cold againand the same gallon and a half of cold water is wasted before the water turnswarm. Repeat this process every time a person wants to access hot water and youcan calculate how much water is wasted with these types of systems.
Bozeman City water conservation dept. asked residents to shut the water off whilebrushing your teeth, what a joke, when developers and builders are allowed toinstall water wasting systems by the thousands. I, for one, will not wash my facewith cold water or wash my hands with cold water. Millions of gallons of waterare being wasted just to get hot water to wash your face or hands. This isshameful to put the burden of conserving water on residents of Bozeman when thecity approves developments and systems are installed to waste water.
I invite anyone to come to my unit and see for themselves the process we gothrough every time hot water is needed.
My other concern is that these high density developments are being built without
green space, or parks. Will the City of Bozeman not be happy until every Veiwsof our beautiful natural resource is either paved over completely or the only place
to see the mountains is from an airplane? Shame on the county commissioners, zoning boards, city planner, water conservation dept. and dept. of natural
resources for continuing to destroy the Gallitan Valley for money.
I don't believe any of my concerns will have any impact as these developers havealready had the stamp of approval from the Bozeman Department of Community
Development.
This “Graf Street Apartments” as well as all the high density developments beingbuilt through Bozeman, expanding to Belgrade and beyond will come back to bite
you all in the years to come, due to the shoddy work that goes into these fastmoney making developments. In New York, they were call “The Projects” . In
Bozeman they call it “High Density”.
