We did not want to drive to downtown nor to work, and we wanted our kids to be able to walk to school. We also wanted a yard large enough for our children to run and play, and our dog to live a healthy life without our needing the city to build us a dog park. We planted a large vegetable garden which we enjoy every summer, and we share its bounty with our neighbors. Do you really believe that cutting down old trees and mature vegetation that characterizes our historic neighborhoods and plopping down 5 story buildings where green spaces thrive now will offset climate change? Do you really believe that any of these massive buildings that are replacing affordable housing will be affordable for Bozemanites? As for providing financially affordable infrastructure, we just approved a special improvement district to replace the infrastructure on our street which is costing each home an additional $500 per year on our taxes for the next 20 years. We are paying our way. What mystifies me the most, is that all of these goals you outline for the future of Bozeman are being realized in our historic neighborhoods. The modest neighborhoods that surround the urban core have achieved and protected those goals for a hundred years. Why would you compromise their future to replace them with dense, expensive, Anytown USA buildings? This growth plan ignores the value of our older neighborhoods, which provide high quality, environmentally healthy life styles. It makes no sense.
