There are many churches within the City of Bozeman and many churches have a different belief. Did you even stop and think about all those who might be offended? Rather than causing residents of the City of Bozeman to get upset and angry, I strongly urge the City Commissioners to rescind the decision to paint rainbows on our crosswalks. The City should have a policy of promoting our natural resources, which is what visitors want to see. If that is not acceptable, the City Commissioners need to paint the American Flag on every crosswalk. Apparently you can afford to paint rainbows, so the City Commissioners can practice equality by paying for American Flags on crosswalks to honor our veterans and our constitutional freedoms that the country offers to ALL citizens. I also request that during the month of December, the City of Bozeman partner with churches throughout the City to install nativity scenes and celebrate Christmas by bringing back signs that say "Merry Christmas", allow all businesses to put up "Christmas" decorations so that they can practice their freedom of speech just as the Gender Equality Montana has done. Perhaps you can paint nativity scenes on crosswalks so that Bozeman remains welcoming for residents and ranchers that have lived here for many years. On the 4th of July, paint patriotic scenes on the crosswalks in honor of our independence and founding fathers. During Easter, the City can paint the symbols of Christianity to honor the holiday. The City Commissioners stated they want to make it clear that Bozeman is a safe and welcoming community for all. Safe means that you should never defund or transfer funds from our Bozeman Police Department, specifically $60,000, and welcoming means that all of you should be partnering with ALL ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT THE CITY, with churches to bring back Christmas so that all Christian Americans feel like they are STILL welcome. If the City Commissioners want to make Bozeman safe and welcoming for EVERYONE, they need to make it a priority to continue to approve full funding for our police department. If they want to make Bozeman welcoming for all, then above all, every one of you must make it a priority to keep the City neutral. Montana has always been about nature and the natural beauty of the State. I can understand painting wildlife, river scenes, birds, horses, elk, bison, ski scenes, etc., all of which are enticing to visitors vacationing in the area. That is what Montana is about and what attracts visitors to the State. Visitors don't make Montana a vacation destination to see rainbows painted on the street. I am deeply disappointed in the Mayor and City Commissioners for not remaining neutral and promoting something other than Montana's natural resources, which is what people vacationing in Montana want to see. It is things like this that divide the City and the people rather than unify.
