Hello,
I am writing to express my disappointment in the city’s decision to paint rainbow crosswalks downtown. While Irecognize your intent to demonstrate acceptance to the gay community, it seems shallow, expensive and divisive.
During a time in our city when homeless rates are on the rise, coronavirus is blowing through, schools are in need, there is a HUGE lack of foster families and many roads are in dire need of repair, this decision is a luxury. Mostlybecause it is not going to actually help anyone. Did you consider funding for education? Did you reach out to theLGTBQ community and ask them what their needs were to feel safer here? It is hard to believe their answer wouldbe to paint a rainbow on the street.
I am also sad that this decision was made to spend taxpayer money, yet no public comment was allowed. This feelsdeceitful. It is propaganda and NOT what we elected you to do. A few of you knocked on my door during yourelections... you wanted real solutions ... this is not a real solution for this community group. Are you prepared tocreate and maintain a crosswalk for every group that seeks one? And by that I mean every group on either side of theaisle. It is something I hope you considered before you charged ahead with this.
