I am writing in support of the amendment to the UDC to make detached ADU's an allowed use rather than
a special use in R-1 & RS zoning. It allows us as property owners in R-1 & RS districts to have the equal
opportunity to have a detached rental on our property that can help offset rising property taxes and help in
a small way with in-fill and affordable housing in our community. These are often larger lots that had a
precedent of detached carriage houses (that were often occupied), so in many cases it fits with the
historical use of these properties. Also, since you can't rent them as short term rentals and one structure is
owner occupied, it actually has an impact on providing rental properties in the core of the community.
