As a resident of the UNA neighborhood and purchaser of the Parking District Permits, I urge
the City Commission and the Parking Commission to re-evaluate the current process of
permitting, enforcing and fining in these districts.
Perhaps it is time to revisit the entire backwards approach of how these districts have created
an unfair "tax" to property owner rather than issuing permits to those who wish to park on the
street they don't reside on.
Since that isn't likely to happen in the near future:
I endorse the letter sent by the UNA board requesting :
1. Not increase the Parking Permit Fee to $35, but instead use surplus to decrease fees to $20
or $25
2. Direct the Parking Services to follow the RPPD Ordinance and its intent. Use both parking
permits and FINES from MSU/BHS RPPDs as revenue to balance the cost of operating these
RPPDs. These fines are intended to help finance the RPPDs and not be a “Cash Cow” for Parking
Services.
The revenue generated by the districts would not be made if we the residents weren't making
it possible to assess fines, therefore it only makes logical sense to use the proceeds to fund
the districts. According to the information received from our UNA board the actual fees
should go DOWN not be increased.
Sincerely
