Dear City Commission,
I am grateful for the RPPD. I have lived in the University neighborhood for 29 years and was here when the RPPD
was first established in 1993. Looking at the City Commission minutes from November 15, 1993, it is clear that the
RPPD is to be funded by both permit fees and citation fines. With this in mind, I ask that the City Commission vote
not to increase the present permit fee of $30 as the RPPD is currently functional and financially solvent with a
surplus.
In my experience the RPPD is a success! It has improved safety in the University neighborhood for residents and
for all those passing through including commuters to and from the MSU campus - pedestrians, bicyclists, and
vehicle drivers and passengers. This increased safety is a great benefit for all.
I ask you to vote to keep the permit fee as it is at $30 or even to lower it to $25 as the RPPD is financially solvent
and in surplus. I also would appreciate your help in making it clear to all that the RPPD includes both permit fess
and citation fines to cover the costs of the residential parking permit districts as originally intended when the RPPD
was established in 1993.
Thank you,
Aimee Morel-Seytoux
