To whom is may concern:
I would like to voice several concerns with the Bozeman City Commission’s new anti-racist
plan:
First off, to the best of my knowledge the city choose to not consult any BIPOC from thecommunity, but choose to make decisions that will affect their safety and well-being for them.
This is unacceptable. Why has the city commission not reached out to Bozeman United or theMontana Racial Equity Project for guidance? The police chief and city staff can’t provide an
unbiased look at their own policies and actions, and need the perspective of those that they itaffects.
Furthermore, 8 can’t wait is an unacceptable model for reform that the creators apologized for.Quote: “if you are a legislator who has adopted these policies or are considering it, please
know that it will take many strategies to move beyond policing and use this time to learn moreand listen to the needs of your community.”
And lastly someone outside of the police force needs to be responsible for reviewing policeuse of force and misconduct—not a chief who clearly can’t see problems within his own
department.
