Commissioners-
As residents of the MSU RPPD and the owners of two resident parking permits, we are
vehemently against another permit increase this year.
The price of the permits has increased each year for the last 4 years along with the move to
virtual permits that are impossible to manage especially when a unexpected guest pops by
during the day. Many of our more senior neighbors have had to forgo getting guest parking
permits because they are not technically adept (the hang tag system worked beautifully).
Surely this new and onerous system is a contributing factor to the decline in purchased
permits.
Most importantly, permits are not the only revenue stream to finance the RPPD – FINES are
intended to also finance the RPPD – the RPPD ordinance 1345/1376 set up in 1993 clearly
states that permits and fines are to be set so they generate revenue to pay for the program.
With both revenue streams, there is no need for a bump in permit price. The program is
sustainable.
Those of us who reside in the MSU Parking district have been hit hard with taxes this year. The
Tree Special Assessment is going up again, property taxes, now Parks & Trails. One more tax is
not just one more tax especially when the RPPD program has the revenue necessary to pay for
itself.
Give us break and leave the parking permit price alone (it could actually go lower and you’d
still have a net/net program).
