With the current influx of tourists and people coming from out of state hoping to escape COVID-19, masks
are more important than ever. If we hope to keep our businesses open despite the rising case numbers and
rising population, we need to make masks mandatory in all public spaces. It is not a big sacrifice to cover
your face in public. This small gesture not only protects the people around us, but it also benefits people
directly by helping keep the businesses we love and depend on open. While I recognize that the tourism
industry is massively important for our economy, all of the tourists and the new residents are causing virus
cases to increase. Ideally, we would protect Montanans by reinstating the travel restrictions, but
considering the economic benefits of tourism, the least we can do is make masks mandatory. We have to
prevent the population spike from causing an uncontrollable virus spike.
