I am writing this letter to express my strong opposition to a mandate on wearing masks in Bozeman. This should be
a choice. Lots of businesses in Bozeman have already asked that people wear masks when they come in to their
establishment and it is the customer’s choice to put on a mask and go in or to not go to that business. There is no
reason to abuse your position of power by having a mask mandate FORCED upon people.
I would like to say that YOU, the city commission, certainly does not speak on my behalf when it comes to the
subject of mandating masks. From what I understand, you aren’t even speaking for a lot of the people who elected
you, when you took it upon yourself to ask the health department to mandate masks. I am pretty sure you can’t
mandate us to buy a mask or wear anything that we don’t want to. Forcing people to wear a mask is an act of
intimidation.
The information about this virus changes daily. The one thing we do know is that it is a virus. Just like any virus,
minus smallpox, it will never completely go away. Our death rate is NOT going up. People are recovering from this
virus. The hospitalizations are low. By the time it is all said and done, most everyone will have been exposed to it.
In conclusion, it should be a choice to wear a mask or not wear a mask.
Thanks you for your time.
Sincerely,
M. Higgins
